Turning red light therapy into everyday recovery

Recharge Health needed a companion app to turn FlexBeam — their FDA-cleared wearable light therapy device — from a hardware purchase into a guided recovery experience. Devspace delivered the full product lifecycle: discovery, UX/UI design, build, and App Store submission.

Turning red light therapy into everyday recovery

The challenge

Recharge Health develops FlexBeam - a wearable red and near-infrared light therapy device trusted by 35,000+ users globally and cleared by the FDA. As adoption grew, so did a clear product gap: getting users from unboxing to their first effective session required more than a manual.

Recharge Health needed a companion app that could guide users through device placement, timing, and routine-building - translating the science of red light therapy into simple, tap-to-start sessions. It had to support a growing performance-focused community, reduce support overhead, comply with medical device standards, and launch seamlessly across global app stores.

What we did

Full product lifecycle - from first scoping workshop to App Store submission.

Discovery and architecture

We started with a scoping workshop to understand Recharge Health's broader ways of working - not just the feature list. From this, we selected a technology stack aligned with existing internal tooling, so the team could take long-term ownership of the product without external dependency.

UX, design and build

We mapped content flows, designed a clean and approachable UI, and built an application the internal team could easily maintain and evolve. A visual onboarding guide walks new users through device placement and safety basics. Structured recovery programs translate expert protocols into timed, tap-to-start sessions with reminders.

Content flexibility

A flexible content model lets the Recharge Health team update programs and descriptions as their membership offer evolves - no new builds required. The internal team owns the content layer completely.

Publishing and compliance

We managed the full release process: App Store listings, screenshots, compliance labels, and approvals for AppStore, including the documentation requirements.

The outcome

New FlexBeam owners now move faster from unboxing to first effective session. Consistent in-app guidance reduces support overhead and reinforces safe device use. Performance-focused users get structured post-training recovery protocols built on expert protocols. The internal team owns the content model, no external dependency to keep evolving the product. The roadmap includes Apple Health integration to recommend treatment timing based on training activity. Devspace supported Recharge Health from the very first conversation through to a live, compliant product on the App Store.

Devspace brought experienced designers and developers who integrated seamlessly with our team - it felt like having a fractional, on-demand product team.
