AI, data science, and software engineering for a leading US veterinary radiology company

The challenge

Vets Choice Radiology (VCR) is a leading provider of veterinary teleradiology in the US, delivering 24/7/365 diagnostic imaging interpretations: X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound, through a network of more than 100 board-certified radiologists. Diagnostic demand across the veterinary profession has been rising steadily, and VCR has built its reputation on guaranteed turnaround times and a white-glove service model that keeps pace with that demand.

In 2026, VCR entered a new phase of growth and investment, expanding its leadership team and committing to strengthen the technology, clinical capacity and customer experience behind its service. That meant VCR needed more than project-based contractors: it needed a single engineering partner who could take ownership across software development, data science and AI, and provide senior engineering advisory to help shape the company's direction as it scaled.

What we did

More than 20 senior Devspace specialists embedded across software, data science and AI, with senior technical advisors supporting VCR's leadership through a period of significant investment and growth.

Main engineering partner across the stack

Devspace operates as VCR's primary engineering partner, covering the full breadth of technical work the company needs as it scales from software development to data science, and AI/ML, rather than a narrow, project-based contractor relationship.

20+ senior specialists embedded

More than 20 senior Devspace engineers and specialists work embedded directly inside VCR's teams, functioning as colleagues rather than an external vendor layer, with the scale to run multiple workstreams in parallel as the business grows.

Engineering leadership capacity

Devspace provides senior technical advisory closer to the executive level, giving VCR additional capacity to execute against its technical strategy and architecture decisions during a critical period of investment.

AI and data science expertise

Alongside core software delivery, the embedded team brings applied AI and data science expertise to VCR's platform, helping the company build the intelligent tooling and infrastructure needed to support its network of 100+ radiologists at scale.

The outcome

With Devspace as its primary engineering partner, VCR has the technical capacity and senior experience to support its next phase of growth, without the time, cost and risk of building a large internal engineering organization from a standing start. The embedded model gives VCR a team that carries full context across its software, data and AI initiatives, rather than fragmented pieces of work spread across multiple vendors. That is the continuity that matters for a company scaling its technology at the same time as it scales its leadership team and its radiologist network. Devspace continues to operate as VCR's embedded engineering partner as the company invests in its platform, its people, and the experience it delivers to veterinary practices.

As VCR scales, we needed more than contractors, we needed a technical partner who could think alongside our leadership team. That's what Devspace has given us.
